As taught at Bible Study 6_15_21
DO YOU KNOW WHO JESUS IS?
ONLY ONE GOD
Since the world was first created,
God drilled it into His people that He alone is the ONLY God.
The belief that there is only ONE GOD
is the foundation of the Jewish belief.
Some churches teach that there is a trinity, but we’re going to study
what the Word of God says concerning this.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Hear,
O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
And
thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all
thy soul, and
with all thy might.
And these words, which I command thee
this day shall be in thine heart.
And thou shalt teach them DILIGENTLY
unto thy children, and shalt talk
of them when thou sittest
in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and
when thou risest up.
And thou shalt bind them for a sign
upon thine hand, and they shall be as
frontlets
between thine eyes.
And thou shalt write them upon the
posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
The Jews refer to this as “the
Shema.” It is a declaration of absolute monotheism.
Notice that they were to teach it
“diligently” - - - diligently in the Hebrew (#H8150) means…. Intensively, to
pierce, sharpen
What were they to teach diligently?
They were to teach this commandment
and instill this belief of only ONE God into their family.
And that they are to love their
Creator with all of their heart, soul, and might….with everything within them!
All these words were to be in their heart (vs 6).
They were to talk about their God
when they were just sitting in their house, and when they were walking down the
road (driving for us nowadays), when they went to bed at night, and when they
rose up in the morning.
They were to bind them for a sign
upon their hands
Sign
(H226) = a signal, as a flag, beacon, monument, evidence, etc
They were to be as frontlets between
their eyes
Frontlets
were a decorative band or ornament worn on the forehead.
The Jews would wear these with the
Scripture written on them as a
constant reminder while
praying.
They were to write these words on the
doorpost of their house and on their gates
So
that whether they or guests are going or coming, it is a reminder that there
is but one God and they
were to serve Him only with all of their heart, soul,
and might.
NO OTHER GODS….
Dt 4:35, 39
Unto
thee it was shown that thou mightest know that the Lord he is God,;
there
is none else
beside him.
Know
therefore this day and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord He is
God in heaven
above and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.
Dt 32:39 See now that I even I am He, and there is no god with me….
Is 43:10-11 ….before Me there was no god formed, neither shall there be
after Me. I, even
I, am the LORD; and beside Me there is no Savior.
Is 44:6,8 Thus saith the LORD the King
of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD
of hosts; I Am the First and
the Last; and beside Me there is no god….ye
are My witnesses, Is there a
God beside Me? Yea, there is no god; I know
not any.
Is 45:5-6 I am the LORD and there is none else,
there is no god beside Me:
I girded thee, though thou hast not
known Me: That they may know from the
rising of the sun and from the west,
that there is none beside Me. I am the
LORD and there is none else.
Is 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I
Am God, and there is none else;
I Am God, and there is none like Me.
GOD THE CREATOR…..
Is 45:14-15, 18 ….Surely God is in thee; and there is
none else, there is no
God. Verily Thou art a
God that hideth thyself, O God of Israel, the
Savior….for thus saith the
LORD that created the heavens; God Himself that
formed
the earth and made it; He hath established it, He created it not in vain,
He formed it to be inhabited: I
Am the Lord, and there is none else.
Cross Reference…
John 1:1-14 In the beginning was the Word, and the WORD
WAS WITH GOD,
and the WORD WAS GOD.
The same was in the beginning with God. All
things were made by Him and
without Him was not any thing made that was
made….He was in the world,
and the world was made by Him, and the world
knew Him not. He came unto
His own, and His own received Him not. But as
many as received Him, to them gave
He power to become the sons of God, even
to them that believe on His name….and
the WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and
dwelt among us, and we beheld
His glory…. JESUS!!!
Colossians 1:14-18 In whom we have redemption through His blood,
even the
forgiveness of sins: Who is the
image of the invisible God…
For BY HIM were all things created, that are in
heaven, and that are in earth,
visible and invisible, whether they
be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or
powers: ALL THINGS WERE CREATED
BY HIM, AND FOR HIM.
And He is before all things, and BY HIM ALL THINGS CONSIST.
And He is the head of the body, the Church…
EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW…
Is 45:21-23 ….who hath declared this from ancient time? Who
hath told it from
that time? Have not I the LORD? And there
is no god else beside Me; a just
God and a Savior; there
is none beside Me.
Look unto Me and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: for I
Am God, and
there is none else.
I have sworn by Myself, the Word is gone out of My mouth in righteousness,
and shall not return, that unto Me
every knee shall bow, every tongue shall
swear.
Cross Reference vs 23 with……
Romans 14:10-11 …for we shall all
stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
For
it is written, As I live, saith the LORD, every knee shall bow and every
tongue shall confess to God.
Phil 2:10-11 That at the name of Jesus every knee should
bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and
things under the earth; and that every tongue
should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Jesus showed His Disciples that He is
the Father….
John 14:6-9
Jesus saith unto him, I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh
unto
the Father, but by Me.
If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also: and from
henceforth
ye know Him and have seen
Him.
Philip saith unto Him, Lord, shew us the
Father, and it sufficeth us.
Jesus saith unto him, Have I
been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not
known
Me, Philip? He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and
how sayest
thou
then, Shew us the Father?
Jesus showed His Disciples that He is
the Comforter/ the Holy Ghost…
John 14:15-18
If you love Me, keep My commandments. (Deuteronomy 6)
And I will pray the Father
(remember Jesus just told them HE is the Father…He
is speaking of roles, not another
deity) and He shall give you another Comforter,
that he may abide with you forever.
Even
the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him
not, neither knoweth Him. But ye know Him; for He dwelleth with
you, and
shall be in you.
I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU
COMFORTLESS: I WILL COME TO YOU.
Colossians 2:8-9
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit (false
thinking)
after the traditions of men, after the
rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
For in Him (Jesus) dwelleth
all the fullness of the Godhead BODILY.
1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy, great is the
mystery of godliness:
God was…
1. Manifest in the flesh (Jesus)
2. Justified in the Spirit (Holy Ghost =
Jesus )
3. Seen of angels (Jesus)
4. Preached unto the gentiles (Jesus)
5. Believed on in the world (Jesus)
6. Received up into glory (Jesus)
There are not 3 separate persons in
the godhead.
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are
titles/roles/manifestations of the One and Only God. Scripture will not contradict Scripture.
Matthew 28:19
Jesus instructed for the disciples to
go and baptize in the name of the father, son, and holy ghost.
Yet Peter taught on the Day of
Pentecost and was backed by the Apostles and all present in the Upper Room that
everyone everywhere needed to be baptized in the name of Jesus in
order to wash away their sins (Acts 2:38)
Peter and the other disciples and
apostles with him knew that the NAME of the father, son, and Holy Ghost is
JESUS….God manifest in the flesh!
It is not just a couple of verses that declare the oneness of the Godhead, but the whole Bible.
These were only a few of the many Scriptures that declare there is only one God, not two, not three, but one God and His name is Jesus.
One final beautiful Scripture…
Is 49:14-16
But Zion said, the
LORD hath forsaken me, and my LORD hath forgotten me.
Can a woman forget
her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on
the son of her womb? Yea, they may
forget, yet will I not forget thee.
Behold, I have
graven thee upon the palms of My hands…
This was a prophetic Scripture revealing God’s Salvation
plan.
He was telling His people HE will
take the nail scars in His hands to purchase their Redemption.
God, as a Spirit, could not do
that. Because a Spirit can not die. So, He took on the form of man so He could be
the Spotless Lamb, purchasing back our salvation through His Blood that He shed
on Calvary.
Scriptures in the Old Testament
revealed that when He would say “beside Me there is no Savior”
He didn’t send someone else, a 2nd
person in the godhead – He came and offered Himself for us. THAT is a loving God!
