Milk vs Strong Meat

Hebrews 5 (KJV)

¹¹ Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

¹² For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

¹³ For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

¹⁴ But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Hebrews 6 (KJV)

¹ Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

² Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Paul wrote a letter to the Hebrews encouraging them to grow in the knowledge of the Word of God and rebuking them for being stuck on just the foundations of the Gospel.

The foundations are necessary,  for without them a building will eventually crumble.   We need to make our foundation sure and secure, understanding the necessity for repentance,  the need to be baptized in the name of Jesus and receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost (*see Scripture references at the end), laying on of hands to pray for others, that one day the dead in Christ will rise again,  and there will be a day of judgment.

But these are just the first principles. Paul rebuked them saying they should be eating strong meat (hard messages to chew on) yet they were still desiring and seeking for the milk of the Word (things easy to swallow and soothing).

He said their ears were dull and they weren't hearing what they needed to hear nor were they understanding what they should be understanding.  They should be teachers yet they were still babies in understanding of the Word. Understanding comes through daily Bible reading (not just the Promises but the entire Bible, front to back cover),  daily quality prayer time spent with Jesus,  and faithful Church attendance for it is through the Preacher,  preaching, and teaching that our understanding opens and grows.

Let us go on unto perfection (let us grow up in the wisdom,  knowledge and understanding of the Word of God), and exercise our senses to be able to discern between good and evil (that will come through knowledge of the Word and consistent daily prayer which draws us closer to God so we can hear what His Spirit is saying).

Are you still drinking and desiring milk (things easy to swallow and are soothing)?

Or are you able to chew on and swallow the strong meat of the Word?
